If you really want to go old school, you can sign up for AT and T's lease program.  Yeah, it's still in operation, and check out the products page!  Hmm, might be a way to land some old time technology in good shape, who knows.  Of course you don't own it, and it could get pretty expensive real fast if you want to stock your house up with goodies from back in the day.

And you can lease a "classic rotary" desk or wall phone for just $4.45 a month. You can even lease a Rotary Trimline for $5.25 a month.

Does this company that took over AT&T leased residential phones still exist? The link doesn't work and I can't find anything on a search.

ISTR that it was A. G. Bell's father-in-law that came up with the idea of leasing phones for $5 a year instead of selling them.

According to Wikipedia it's now:
http://qltcls.com/

"QLT Consumer Lease Services"

Looks like you can still get a 500 or 554 for $4.95/month:

Owned by Alcatel-Lucent. Hmm. I know someone there. I'll have to ask next time I talk to him if I can remember.

Thanks for putting up the new link.  A couple of years ago AT and T stopped letting them use their name and logo, so they became this QLT deal.  Don't know how many people are still leasing, obviously it's enough to justify the program still existing eh?

Those prices arent that much more than we were paying to the Bell system, considering inflation.  What we didnt have to pay was all the 911 and access charges I think.

Why buy a modular 554 for $20 when you can lease one for for $4.45/month ($53/yr) ????
