Need help ith an 8A dial for Princess.

I have an 8A dial that turns both directions with some difficulty. The dial will not return, even after a thorough cleaning and lube.  I rermoved the contacts so I could find what part of the mechanism is binding.
With the contacts removed, the dial spins freely in both direction.
When I restrict the movement at the contact trip arm,at the arrow,  the dial tightens up, and is the soruce of the bind. It is concentric, but doesn't appear bound in any way. Anyone have an idea why it might be binding. Everything moves up and down on the shaft, but when I restrict the contact trip lever, it binds.
