I was recently in Hawaii and did not see one working payphone. Most are still in place, but have been damaged, with the exception of those in the departure terminals, at the airport. I'm surprised that the city/county hasn't made the company responsible remove them all. From the labeling, I suspect that they had been farmed out to a another company, to maintain, a while ago, and they simply walked away.

Shame.  Those of us who don't have cell phones have to look for a bar.  They still have pay-phones.  I think.
