WE F1 handset with brass bands

Are WE F1 handsets with brass bands near the transmitter and receiver original articles?
There seem to be lots of brass and chromed versions for sale, usually at a premium.
This subject has probably been covered somewhere but I'm having trouble finding much about it anywhere on the internet.

Absolutely not!! It is an Old Phone Works creation. These creations are a "liberty" taken that will fool new collectors. They look great, but they are not real. You are correct, the are overpriced as well.

Thanks for that... glad I didn't buy one now. They never looked 'right' to me, anyway, especially when compared to 'real' chromed handsets like the AE 38.

Chicago Old Telephone many years behind Old Phone Works. Got the idea from a colored North set with factory bands on the handset.It was hard to get a steady supply of type 41 handsets with bands so we did these also
