You can't have a decent opening title sequence without some bloke answering a phone in a dramatic manner, can you?

Like so:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO858d7sSeA

He does the hat-trick of phone answering, smashing an intercom with his index finger and ripping the paper roll off a TELEX printer.

Now that's what I call class!
"now this should take five minutes, where's me screwdriver went now..?"

How did Jim every get any assignments?

Must be his answering machine.

I love the phone WE500 10 button on the top of the answering machine...

Hey, what about Donna Reed?  She beat out Jim Rockford by a good decade or more.

gpo706 gets the credit for all the clips!

I suppose there's a Donna Reed Show opening sequence out there somewhere but others would find it a lot more efficiently than I would.

Whoops, Thanks for the correction, Ralph. And thanks gpo706 for the clips.

I'll look around for some Donna Reed sequences involving phones, opening sequences and otherwise.
Of course there's this classic:

and here's the opening sequence featuring the 5302/F1:

Yes!  That's the Donna Reed Show opening sequence with the 500 that I was remembering.  I recall my dad always knowing his "girlfriend" was on TV when that 500 would ring.  I think that phone turned white in later seasons.  Is it just me, or does it look like that black 500 has a grey handset cord that would normally be used on a colored phone?

Thanks for posting!

Wait a minute; isn't the phone not a 500, but a 5302 with an F1 handset?
(My mistake at first, and I edited my previous post.)
And yes, to me at least, the cord doesn't look black, unless it's a trick of the light.

BTW, I have the exact same phone, though the dates may vary. Mine has a black cord. Now may I call it my "Donna Reed" phone? ;)

Also, if Donna was your Dad's "girlfriend"...we could be related, as she was our "other mother". :D

The Operator

Any tv into that combines a Sunbeam Tiger with a 60's payphone must be a show worth watching:

Ever get the urge to call the number on the dial card and say "Hey, I have your phone."

Welcome operator.  I'd forgotten that opening for Get Smart, very cool, and I recall thinking at the time how amazingly neat it was that the doors opened automatically for him.
