Got an email from a kind lady responding to my ad on craigslist for old phones.

Im guessing this is a reproduction. But its got a real dial. What do you all think? What is it worth?

Thanks!

This is one of those cheesy Japanese decorator phones made in the late 1960-1970s.  They are worth about a dime a dozen, but sellers will often ask for outrageous amounts.

It's a Design Line set from the 1970s or '80s.  It's probably a later one, since the cord is modular (the earlier ones had hardwired cords).  How much is it worth?  Hard to tell.  You can find lots of them on ebay, with sellers wanting $100 or $200 for these "rare antiques,"  but the reality is that they're probably worth $20 or $30 at the most.  Incidentally, the Design Line name for the phone is rather uninspiring: "Antique Gold Cradlephone."  It was only available in rotary.

The phone was indeed available as part of the WE Design Line series -

The housing was made by ATC/DecoTel and was also available from numerous mail order and retail phone outlets at the time.  They were also distrubuted by GTE (using AE components).

My Grandma and Great Grandma had doilies everywhere. I used to have nightmares about them when I was a kid ;D

No kidding!  I'll be in the seat next to you!  Next stop: The local Goodwills and other thrift stores!

MORE reproductions.

This is the 3rd email with these same style and era of phones in them.

Those are the Japanese ones, I believe.  They're probably worth even less than the Design Line versions.
