Title: Western Electric #1 Dial
Post by: HarrySmith on September 12, 2019, 11:22:16 AM
Just came across this on eBay. WE #1 dial. Pretty rare item but not in the greatest shape and priced a little high. $1,900.00! I don't think it is quite worth all that considering the condition and the missing number card & holder.

People are desperate to own that dial so it will probably sell.

One sold in 2014 for about $1500
One sold earlier this year for $3745

Both were in pretty good condition.

Some really crappy Sunburst dials have gone for high prices as well.

Of course I'd like one of each but I am waiting for them to be on special.

I still think it's too high. Yes, it is rare but it is incomplete & not in great condition. We will see!
Also, what about the crossed out markings on the terminals? I can't be like a #2 converted to a #4, there was no previous version to convert from that I am aware of.

There were several variations on the No 1 dial each with a different 'D' number and very often over-struck. Most had impulse and shunt contacts only. Some of them had the contact designations over-struck as well.

The No 1 dial seemed very much to be a development dial and, in my view, was created as a replacement for AE Mercedes dials in auto exchanges taken over from independent operators.

This particular dial looks like it has the switch pile from a No 2 dial.
