I have seen refinished phones done in colors normally not seen in those models. Polane is the paint mentioned and I must say if done right looks good. I heard Polane is supposed to be pretty durable. For a display model I can see. But what about a daily driver? Can't really see any paint holding up for long. What is the verdict?

The Bell System painted phones, I have a 554 that was cobbled together from various colors, green, red, black, yellow, and they painted it beige at some point in the 70's.  It was used from then until not too many years ago in  a garage across the street, and there is some wear, but overall it held up pretty good.  Not sure what kind of paint Ma Bell used.
