Does anyone know where I can get an 8 sided wrench for this handset cap?
Thanks.

It is called a hex wrench and you can get them at anyplace that sells tools.

Thanks Harry.
I have all the hex wrench sizes. They are 6 sided, and won't work. I tried the closest size. This needs an 8 sided wrench.

A couple of work arounds are shown on this thread:

It took me a while but I eventually managed to find the same (ex GPO/BT) tool. You should be able to find something similar.

Let us know how you get on.

Ken, If you have an old Proto #36- 3/8" angle screw driver like this it works great, never had a problem removing the nut. Either end can be used too.

OOPS. My bad :o
I have a tool made for theses handsets. It is a modern reproduction of the original AE tool made by one of our members. You can contact Gary to see if he still has them available.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and links.
I decided to mill one myself.
I used a cold steel 1/2" square rod, ground it down to 7/16" and ground down the corners to make the octagonal shape. I buffed the end with green buffing rouge to keep the edges smooth.
It fits perfectly! For a little over $4 and 20 mins grinding.
Here are some pics.
