We are in the midst of a cold spell here in So. Cal.  Here's a 4 lb sledge hammer sitting on the frozen surface of my backyard bird bath at 8:30 this morning.  Ice was 1/4" thick.  Thermometer inside garage indicates 37F.  Not very severe from a national standpoint, but highly unusual here on the west coast.  Brrr....

<G>, and it was plus 4 c., 39,2 f. outside at 6:30 am, now 6.9 c., 44.4 f.,  here in PEI! No sledges sitting on ice here! But its about to end, temps going down to minus 9 tonight. Nice to get rid of a lot of the snow and ice, though, after the past few warm days!

Is anyone able to access the post left by Dave F this morning called "Sunny Southern California?!" also in the "Off Topic" area. I viewed it this morning and intended on posting my own picture of our snowy back yard but I have been unable to get the topic to open this evening on two different computers. I don't know what is wrong with the topic but something seems to be.

Just shows up as a blank page, probably a database or forum software error... ???

Hi Terry:

I posted in the thread yesterday morning shortly after it was originally posted, and then, I think, DSK did, but haven't been able to get back into it like you. Same result. It was interesting to see it colder in Northern California than it was here!

It does seem to be a database error or something - it was fine in the morning, but I get the same results as you now.

He had an interesting photo of a Sledge hammer levitated over a bird bath by 1/2 inch of ice! Meanwhile, we lost most of our ice the past two days here, temps around 45 degrees here. Of course, I had to brag about our warmer temps! Then DSK bragged about his colder temps!

I checked the source code of the page in my browser today, and the source, too is blank - no CRPF headers or anything, so it does appear like a database problem.

I'm experiencing the same problem.  I may have to just delete the post.  I'll see what I can do to correct it.

The weather here has been pretty balmy for the time of year, only now is it snowing properly, causing me issues with my satellite dish too, this morning especially as I lost all signal, so had to climb up the ladders to it, in the snow, to realign it properly, dropping my satellite meter into the snow from up the ladders,

Still, it is the best time to do so cos of the reduced signal from the satellites (in this case, the Astra 2 cluster at 28.2 degrees East, where $ky comes from for those of us in blighty!!), getting the best position in bad weather to reduce rain (or snow) fade, it does prove a point about putting satellite dishes up on hot days, cos I put it up in the summer on a fairly hot day, the metal brackets contracted as the colder weather moved in, the dish went floppy and then blew over in the strong winds we had before xmas, I sorted it on sunday at long last but didn't really do a good job of aiming it until this morning... :D

After Dave F. left his post yesterday, I just had to brag about our 45 degree temperatures here - the past two days, it has been far warmer than normal, and any ice we had is just about gone. Then, DSK posted bragging about his colder temps!

It was a fun little thread. Its not often I hear of it being colder in So. Cal. than here! :)

Interesting photo of a sledge hammer levitated 1/2 inch over his bird bath by a layer of ice!

It wasn't a good day for Dave swimming in his pool ;). See the following from CNN:

Probably a sore in the ar53 and sore in a few other places, too!

I guess, I'm the guilty one.
I tried to edit my post, and upload this picture.
Shot at the evening, at only -16 °C
it was -24° in the morning.

Thank you for the tip, DSK.  I was able to go in and remove your reply that in turn freed up the post.  Don't know what the problem was, but it's back on line now.

I got a blank screen but figured it was a picture looking directly into the sun.
