I got this Crouse-Hinds / Northern Telecom explosion proof telephone yesterday. I found it locally and the fellow I bought it from told me that it had come out of the Oshawa Ontario General Motors Truck Plant Paint Shop. The truck plant closed in 2009. He got it out of there just before they closed it and tore the building down. He said it was still working when he took it off the wall. That was 10 years ago, I will test it when I get a bit of free time.

Wow. Nicely found. That is some phone. How much does it weigh?

It would look good displayed with an old photo of the GM building it came from.

Thanks Fab

The phone weights about 20 lbs / 9 kg.
I like the idea of the picture. I will have to do a search to see if I can find one.

Very nice phone!  Good to see that there are more treasures in the paint shops than Detroit agate.

Great phone Doug. ...I love these phones.

My favorite is the small wall phone.

I had a magneto version, but it was just to big to display...other Doug

There was one of these sitting on a shelf in a central office training room back around 2011. I don't think it had ever been installed. It was like new! I wanted to find out if they had plans for it, but never ended up asking. I wonder if it's still there since Bell bought MTS in 2016.

I've got one too. Mine lives in a box because it's just too heavy to display.

.....

I took mine apart today and hooked up a line cord.
It lives! I think it will become my new garage phone. :)
All the dates are 1983 in this phone.
