Inherited a crusty 302 - what are the jacks on the side?

See attached photo. 2 jacks (banana jacks?) on the side, not connected internally. Is this factory, or something added later? What would they be for?

Those would normally be for a head set.
But if there not connected inside, I wonder cod some one changed the base. From original to what it is now.

Looks like heads as jacks to me as well. I think they look too  "factory" to be an added feature by the typical end user.
This is just my observation/opinion,

Headsets would normally need 3 or 4 poles for both transmitter and receiver.

Did the US ever have 'watch receivers' for the hard of hearing?

But we're not those jacks two pole each?
I've seen sets of two jacks, for transmit and receive that look just like those. But in this case, they may have been removed for what ever reason.

Could be either.
Both types would have the blade configuration inside, so, could go either way.
Can't tell much from the outside.
And agree, looks factory, not aftermarket.

If they are, in fact, banana jacks, they could easily have been installed by anyone at any time -- not necessarily at a factory.

I was into amateur radio when in my teens, and made many more complicated installations. I was in a club with dozens of other teens who were as proficient. That's not to mention the skill of the adults in the hobby.

It would be nice to see the inside view of this housing.
After looking at it again and zoomed in, they could be banana jacks. But why?

can you post a picture of the inside?
I will when I get a chance. The jacks appear to have only one terminal each.

My guess either added to record, or listen with a second headset.

They are switchboard headsets but they will fit the jacks. If you are interested I have a couple of the plugs you could have. I also have an NOS WE F1 handset with the plug, in the box, original military packaging.

I saw these on eBay and they look like they'd fit:

If the jacks on the phone are banana jacks with one terminal each, the plugs on these headsets will not fit. The diameter of the banana jacks is too small, and there are not enough terminals.

You would need to replace the banana jacks with proper headset jacks, if you want to use the headsets.
