I recently picked up a Stromberg 1178 desk phone.  It cleaned up real nice, original paint like new.  I wanted to install a dial on it, but the ae24 won't fit, neither will a mercedes dial.  There is one on Ebay right now that has a AE24 on it, and for the life of me I can't figure out how they did it.  What would have been used on my 1178?  And would SC have changed the phone to accommodate the AE dial later on?

Did a North dial not fit?  I would expect that these came with North dials.

The only North dial I have right now is the 3" version with the stainless steel fingerwheel and it doesn't fit.  I'm looking for the smaller one now.  My S.C. dial candlestick has the smaller North dial so I'm sure that style will work.  On the 1178 that's on Ebay, that one seems to have a taller dial mount than mine do.  That's why I was wondering if the older versions like mine only accommodated the smaller dials, but later on S.C. changed the dial mount to work with the 3" dials.
