I think it is a rotary tone phone., (your link doesn't work) I would be interested in opening up one of these.

Isn't shipping around $50.00?

I guess it is this one: http://tinyurl.com/27z39ao
The famous one with the 0= rotarepo!  ;D

I do not know how it works, or if it works, but it looks quite like a 500? or??

It's manufactured after 1969, has modular plugs, and is shipping from Hong Kong.

No Sale!!

I think it is manufatured after 2009.
They lowered the shipping and raised the starting bid.

I suspect the dial activates a "counter", the IC then generates the proper tone.
I guess you would call this a rotary-tone set.

Yes, I see Hong Kong and would not buy one but I was curious as to how they get * in a pulse?
Sorry about the link I tried Google URL shortener instead of TinyURL and I guess it is not quite as good.

Your Goo.gl link works fine, if you prefix it with 'http://'

Sorta like having to dial '1' before long distance calls. ;)

I would really be interested to see how that works. And I love rotarepo! It sounds like the phone company is going to come take your rotary phone back. No, you can't have it! :D

The rotary dial most likely converts to tone and sends it out over the line in DTMF

There are some phone trees where I can dial the option # and it works.  Most of them don't do that though.  I really like the "push or say" option on some.

dial 011 and 012 I think,

There used to be a standard when voice mail/phone trees  were becoming popular.

Apparently it dials out using pulse or tone. Here is a page about it: http://gadget.brando.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00724
