New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Just listed in a 10 day auction with no reserve and starting at $99.00 is a January 1956 interesting and seller stated rare Oxford Gray WE 500 with issues. The seller posted great pictures, most of which are added to this contest topic, which describes the phone and its issues better than I can in words. So, we have an interesting contest phone. What is someone willing to pay for this phone and who will place a guess closest to that value when the auction ends.

NOTE: we will use a $5 gap rule between guesses again to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest.

The seller listed it as an "Western Electric Soft Plastic Dark (Oxford) Gray 500 - Very Rare", the item condition as "Used" and "Missing line cord and transmitter cap. typical scratches, small crack in shell, tears near end of handset cord" and with the auction listing description saying "Here is a Western Electric soft plastic model 500 telephone in one of the rarest colors, Oxford (dark) Gray.  I am selling this phone for a friend who had it stored in his garage for a several years after it had been in service in his parents' house in the Detroit suburbs for many years prior.  This phone is genuine Oxford gray plastic.  No part of the plastic has been painted. The  phone is not entirely complete.  The transmitter and cap had been replaced by a touch tone adapter, and the line cord is gone.  The handset cord has some tears in the outer insulation in the 6 inches or so at the handset end, but the rest of it is in good condition, so it could be shortened or pulled into the handset.  I have done that to other phones with the same handset cord issue.  The handset and shell are in mostly good condition with the typical light nicks and scratches, and there is a tight crack in the shell between the dial opening and one of the front cradle ears.  Everything here appears to be original with dates between 12-55 and 2-56.  I gave the phone a light cleaning and quick polishing so allow the condition to be seen better, but it would look much better after a proper restoration.  I also connected a temporary line cord and verified that the phone can dial out and ring.  The receiver works well and even the touch tone transmitter adapter works."
