Payphone at Layfette, IN rest stop

I'm currently in Indiana, and after taking an emergency bathroom break in Layfette, I saw this on the wall in the rest stop building. I rarely see payphones at all anymore, and even more rarely see a 1D series in panel configuration.

I can think of one reason as to why it's still there...who would want to cover up the hole left behind by that phone? ;D

That looks like a panel enclosure for a payphone vs a panel phone.

Sorry, that was what I meant. I can't imagine trying to fill the hole left by that phone (since it's pretty much flush with the wall), and the hole would be, what, 10 inches deep? You'd end up trying to cover the hole with a 2-foot tall poster!

The clear sign with the location and police number is a nice touch with the wood grain paneling. Neat find.

I think the panel enclosure is harder to find  than a panel payphone.
