I was reading an old Life magazine (June 30, 1958) and saw an old Western Electric ad.  It was showcasing some of the future phones and prototypes.   What caught my interest was the dial in the handset and small speakerphone.  So I looked up the phones on Paul's website.  They look a bit different.   Looks like the versions from 1962 was a bit different that what was placed in the 1958 advertisement.   Makes me wonder why the long wait?

Here is the link to Paul's webpage showing the Speakerphone Control Unit ("Capri") Prototype

Thanks Paul for letting me share.

Like many new ideas, speakerphones went through many design iterations before getting to market.  In the period of the late 50s to early 70s, designers were turned loose and told to get creative.  Literally thousands of design models were cranked out.  Most were unfortunately lost over the years.

Here's the direct page link to the Capris, plus some other displays that included speakerphone design concepts.
