Just and FYI, these are available from seller "hfred" for 9.95 + shipping, a very good deal.  These used to run $25-$30....  An excellent resource, more of a scrapbook format, but well worth the investment if you are into payphones, booths and related signage.

This may have been the first edition published by Ron Knappen (Phonecoinc) that just sold on eBay for $37 with shipping by a picker/owner and not hfred.

     https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-BOOK-HISTORY-amp-IDENTIFICATION-OF-OLD-TELEPHONES-ADVERTISING-WALL-PARTS-/253381927971

The description said "OLD TELEPHONES SCRAPBOOK- A HISTORY AND IDENTIFICATION OF OLD PHONES- FROM BEGINNING TO 1978 WHEN THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED.  BY R.H. KNAPPEN.  EVERY PAGE HAS ILLUSTRATIONS, DESCRIPTIONS AND HISTORY OF THE TELEPHONE. SOFT COVER WITH RING BINDING.  400 PAGES.  LIGHT WEAR & SOIL ON COVERS."

The book in this topic seems to be the second edition of that book, recently published by Phonecoinc.

TelePlay,

the one you mentioned is probably volume I from three, listed by Ron himself too:

No, the 3 volumes listed by Ron have glued bindings, book bindings.

The one I posted about has a spiral wire binding, not the same.

And, I'm a bit confused, the item of this topic is  $10 bound book but the 3 volume set is over $100 so the item of this topic, the first book posted, seems to be a 4th volume of sorts.

My head is spinning a the moment so maybe someone can explain what's what and how many of these books (different editions or volumes) exist.

Haf

I'll try. I don't have the books but have heard of them before. The original in this topic mentioned book is Ron's Payphone History. That is a different book from the Old Telephones Scrapbook in 3 volumes. The one you found on ebay, sold for $35 is an older version (Vol I only) of the now offered by Ron Old Telephones Scrapbook in 3 volumes reprinted in July 2017.

Hope that clears everything.

The spiral bound book ($32.51) was published in 1978. There were 2 spiral bound volumes. There was also a thin price guide (glue bound) that goes with the 2 scrapbook volumes.

The payphone book ($9.95) Paul mentioned was issued a few years ago.

The 3-volume set ($119) Haf  showed was published in 2017.

Thanks to all. Makes sense now. Not knowing all iterations was confusing. So, now I know.

Thanks for the heads up, it's on its way to me. Been looking for it for awhile. I guess I need to start looking for the other editions as well, but for now I have a bit of beginner reading to do.

This should help. Here's my "Third Edition". Inside book one says:

First edition - 1000 printed and sold

Second edition - 1000 printed

Third edition contains some of book one and some of book two. Implying that first and second edition might have been single books. Says copywrite 1978. Also says future changes will be in fourth edition.

I opened book one to page 123 like the one shown previously. Looks to be the same.

I think the Payphone Book was published quite awhile later?
