Per Jim's suggestion, here's a place to post photos of the phones we will use during the conference call.
I suggest keeping posts on this thread to photos only so we can easily scroll through them during the call. Discussion can happen elsewhere.
We'll start with the guest of honor... D/P's set.
Topic about Conference Call:

1950 500 with a 7A dial dated October 1949. (Looking for the rest of the 1949 set!)
This is my phone for the conference call (after I put the housing back on).
I will use a black 500 dated December of 1950.
Wow! Dennis. That phone looks really awesome.
Are you planning to wear a tuxedo? Sunday clothes? PJs?
;D ;D ;D
My secret, Jorge. If it's a teleconference call, I'll put on a tuxedo. :)
Did anyone notice that the first 4 phones have the 4 variations of the dial.
D/P
I hadn't noticed that, Dan. It would be nice to see them all together....in the same room...maybe on a shelf in MY office! :)
Dennis;
If by some chance we all happen to stop by, and just happen to have our phones with us, I think we could arrange to set them all on your shelf for a photo op. :D :o ::)
D/P
That would be great Dan. I'll keep a vacant shelf ready just in case.
Here is my 6-9-58 soft F-53115 500 set. It is a newer phone than the previously posted phones. The dial is bezel is style 4, Like Dennis's set.

Then after you get your photo, we can load them in to my car so I can drive back to California and put them all on a shelf in MY office.
How does that sound ?
D/P
If I can manage to join the call, I will be doing it using this phone, my 10/50, which is also the one in my avatar. The flash has highlighted all of its imperfections. This phone is basically as I found it, and I haven't done anything to the case. That's going to need to change, especially after seeing how nice Dennis' phone looks.
Oh yeah, and that's the original number card from the 302 that was the first phone installed when my parents moved in here. I retained their number so that card is still "current" if one could describe it that way.
Ralph;
Let us know when it's most convenient, give us as big a window as you can so we can arrange around it.
I thought my 500 looked shiney, but Dennis' takes that honor so far. IU'm going to have to grease er up with F21, and take aquick photo.
D/P
I just put a little Novus2 on mine for the "photo shoot".
Ralph, that's pretty cool that your dial card is original to your parents and you still have the same number.
Ralph:
I see no imperfections from here. Those little dings and scratches gives it ... character, seniority ... like the big cats in the jungle.
I'm going a different route and going to break out the 2003 model 500. I figure it will be purty fun and ironic to have a 55 year age span between what are essentially the same model of phone. A mid 20th century version talking to an early 21st century version of itself.
On the same note McHeath: are non Western Electric phones allowed in the conference call? How about an Automatic Electric?
Why not an AE? They have an honored place in the history of phones. Heck why not any phone, what's so impressive is that 1948 technology will easily interface with any phone.
D/P, my schedule is so unpredictable that it's better for me to plan around a set time that's been provided, or perhaps a couple of choices for times to hold the call. Long story, but I am 24/7 caregiver to my s/o (aka d/p!) after a stroke back in November, so even the simplest of plans can evaporate on me if there's a crisis of any type around the old homestead.
It looks like I'll need to get my hands on some Novus2, or will Glayzit do the same thing? I do sort of feel the same as Jorge and as long at I'm using the 10/50 as my daily driver on my desk, it doesn't have to be perfect, but the scuffs that showed up in the photo were somewhat embarassing--especially amid the perfection that abounds in this group! LOL!
I'm looking forward to hearing the old-timey sound of all of those bakelite handsets shifting around in participants' hands!
Is there going to be any sort of agenda for the call, or are we all going to wing it with subject matter?
Like Paul mentioned, It's going to be primarily to get to talk to all of the folks we only hear from in the written word.
R/P, Hoping for a full recovery of D/P.
D/P
are we doing the call this sat ??? i thot i read that mentioned somewhere. i am thinking i will use a princess phone....probably a pink one. i would like to use my sept 1937 302 in honor of my dad. he was born sept 17, 1937 & worked for WE until his death in 1984. but the 302 is in northern mich & i won't go there again for a couple weeks. :(
Thanks D/P. It's slow but steady progress here and full recovery or nearly so is expected.
Now I'm wondering if maybe I should dust off my 202 and use it for part of the call, just to get an honest opinion from participants on how the transmission sounds from my 5/36 capsule.
If by some form of witchcraft I'm able to do this, I'll be using my 1952 500.
I'm looking forward to attending this historic call.
But most of all, I'm looking forward to talking with everyone.
Here's a photo of the phone I will use. It is my 8-62 WE 500 set.
I actually use this phone at my home office desk.
Russ Kirk
I wonder what we would need to do to document the fact of the "The Most Vintage Phones Ever used In A Conference Call". Another record.
D/P
Maybe we could all state the type of phone we're using when we introduce ourselves on the call.
I'm going to do my best to be available at 5 PM PDT on Sunday!
can I call too
I'm excited to hear more about D/P's 1949 set, and to get a chance to meet some more of you. I'm planning to call in using my latest eBay score -- a dates-matching 1958 red soft plastic 500. It needs some love and attention, but is generally in pretty great shape. I'm excited about it because it is my first soft plastic 500, and it brings a bit of color to my overwhelmingly black collection of phones.
Jim
Congratulations Jim:
I can smell the aroma all the way to CA.
Over the years, I have been was lucky enough to find three red phones, each dated to the month and year when my brother, my sister and me were born.
I would be remiss if I did not use my Feb 1951 500 that has some Dec 1950 dates inside.
I'm not 100% if I'll be able to make it to the conference call, but if I do I will use this phone. It is a Stromberg Carlson call director. It's connected to the KSU, so it lights and up everything. Interestingly it was built without a ringer in it. It's very nice to talk on it too. ;D

I had to think about this. I decided that since D/P put a lot of effort into bringing his phone back to life, I chose a phone that I did the same, the one that was the worst condition when I got it, which is the beige 59 500, also my first 500 set. Here's the before and now pics. (Note: The color difference has to do with two different cameras. The second pic is the true color.)
Brinybay;
Rightfully deserving of the honor, good job.

I couldn't think of a better phone to use:
Excellent point Remco!
Thinking along that line, I'll put a SofTouch dialer on my 500 set...

Remco;
What type phone is that. Is it made in Europe ? The handset reminds me of AE.
D/P
It's a AE TYPE 890 Data Phone:

Here's what I'll be using if I make it to the call.
My 1952 500.
That is a good point about which TT device to call in with.
I gave it some thought and decided to use a 1968 Round button trimline. I wasn't going to daylight this set until the Lyons show, however, this is a special occasion.
The phone is a transparent engineering model 1968 rd button IC trimline They are classified as a 2220B-1 set.
The last 2 photos are production models, both are rebuilt sets from the mid 70's.
Jim
After alot of rethinking, I have decided to go with my first choice for tonight's call--my 12/50 500. Besides being the oldest 500 I have, it's also the first one in my collection, so I've had this one the longest.
You know I think I'll use my Beige Trimline to dial in with just to keep with the old phone rule entirely.
A very impressive line up of vintage, and rare phones.

Glad to see AE represented on the call Remco. And a more quirky phone from AE could not easily be found!

This is a mag cover of a prototype IC trimline.
Off topic but adds to my post which I linked to today.
The photo mentioned in the previous post is here. The other relevant photos are in the message I quoted.
(modifed)
This was intended to expand the post I quoted in the previous message.
I may have to grab the photos and start a new topic.
Sorry about that

Wow ! I read this post beginning to end, and it seems like yesterday, but my goodness, next month it will be 8 years.
D/P
Paul, can you send me a link to the original post about the conference call. Thanks.

Tom,
The forum search quickly leads here:

I edited that link into the initial post of this topic.
I wonder about the benefit merging the two topics now after the fact. Would need to oook at them a bit more first.

Thanks Terry. Great idea to put the link in the first post.
I'd personally like to see the two topics kept separate. When I want to look at the phone photos, I'd rather not have to read past the procedure emails.
We could make both easier to use by adding a few more links to the first posts of both topics.
I was going to add the following to the first messages, but apparently the OP loses the right to edit posts after some period of time. Please consider adding the following:

Note that I found a third relevant topic. The April 25, 2010 conference call topic could be merged with the Invitation topic.
There may be a few other messages that deserve a direct link to help readers find them without having to read the entire topic(s).
These topics should also be linked from the main topic, Now the Story can be Told. (Beyond my pay grade.)
Okay, I will do that soon. Thanks Paul.
We had to make a change a number of months ago that only allows members to edit existing posts for one week then editing becomes locked. The time frame before editing locks is under our control and we decided on that length of time. This was due to some sabotage of old posts. If someone needs something edited where just adding a new post isn't adequate, Moderators will do it for them.
