Dear Forum:

I have a NE Chestphone with a M1A ringer that has a NE 54A gong in place of the typical 61A gong used with that... I was wondering if anyone knew what the reason for that might be, please?

The set was repaired by Saskatchewan Tel. Co. in 1979.

My guess is the 61A gong wasn't considered loud enough in the high volume we setting, so the 54A may have been substituted to allow for a somewhat louder ring...

Does anyone else know why that was done, or have an opinion on this?

All replies and feedback appreciated.

Thank you,
