Polishing Leich 90

I recently purchased a Leich 90 telephone with extended base.  The handset had some scratches in it, so I tried applying Novus #2 polish.  It didn't do much, but the shine was nice.  I then began applying it to the base of the phone itself.  Some how, it took shiny finish off (I didn't even rub that hard!).  One side of the phone is smooth, and the other side that I polished feels and looks matte. 

Did I ruin the plastic???

I've used novus for years and this has never happened.   

Ugh.. what a dope.  lol
