Mountjoy put the transition in 1936, but there has been past discussion of zinc sets dated 1935.

It would be interesting to confirm with observations.

The range for 6D dials with clear FW may be extended to at least November 1955.
I have a 6D 8-55 with 6-stamped FS and 164A III-55 no Z, and sold a 6D 11-55 w/ 164A IV55 no Z.

150-type.............................1938-53
Square D.....................................*III 38.............II 40
Rounded D, with Z........................III 40..............II 53

No Z...........................................III 53......IV 53

P-340016............................1952-54 (Black dot)
With Z....................................... ..I 52.................II 53*
No Z.......................................
.....*IV 53..................I 54

164-type....................................

Still need II 38 and III 53 (black dot).

I do believe that I have the missing dotted plate of III 53 without Z, because it is listed in a similar table that I have kept, but I just need to locate this plate...  so hold on.

Ok, it's located on a beautiful Oct. 1953 ivory 304 with all dates matching including almost new looking (but washed) silk cords.  The 6D dial of this plate is dated 10-53. The phone came from Redford, MI.
