Just got this beautiful original green 302 in and it has this odd antiseptic mouthpiece. I would love to clean it, as it looks disgusting, but I am not sure how brittle the weave is.

Anyone ever see something like this?

Thanks,

I have never seen one. Was the most cover cut to accommodate it?....Doug

Nice phone! I have never seen that mouthpiece before. It does look pretty nasty, maybe clean it with Woolight and a toothbrush? My first thought was bleach but that might be too harsh.

I will try a soft toothbrush first. It reaks of cigarette smoke.

Great looking 302! That's probably one of the nicest Green ones I've seen--there's still some of the original green dye in both cords!

That Antiseptic mouthpiece is interesting. I'm glad the transmitter cap wasn't ruined in order to get the attachment on. OxyClean might be able to clean that.

There sure was a market for all these sorts of devices years ago. In actual use I would think this likely increased chances iof some sort of germ getting you as opposed to decreasing the risk! Instead of just a plastic mouthpiece cap that anyone could unscrew and scrub as much and often as they wanted, let's attach something over the mouthpiece with what looks like some sort of fabric in it so there are many more places for germs to hide inside, under and behind while giving a sense of "problem solved" to the user.

Of course this was in a time when Accurate Information was much harder to come upon unlike our age with the internet at our fingertips. .....oh....well....hhmmmm...never mind....

If it was me, I would remove the filter and sell the filter separately. It just takes away from the beautiful phone and you will never get that smell away. No one want that smell every time you use the phone. Just my two cents....Doug

Thanks, she could use a light buff to get rid of some of the surface scratches and grime.

We think we will be able to fix the curly cord with hot water and a dowel. It also has 25 ft line cord attached that's in great condition too.

Matt,
I'm intrigued by the dial plate on your phone.  With that d- shaped mark above the finger stop, it appears to be the type that fits the #6 dial specifically-- it can't be used on the #2-5 dials.  I haven't seen many, and all the ones I either have or have had still have the Z inside the last finger port.  I've seen a picture of one like yours before(maybe here?), but I haven't "held one in my hand".  Would love to know what date is stamped on yours.

Very nice phone, love the color! 302s make any shade look stately. Seems like the mouth piece add-on would muffle sound coming into the the receiver. Either way, neat piece of telephone history.

Number plate with black dot  is part number P-340016
           With Z                      I 52 -- II 53
           No Z                         III 53 -- I 54

The universal 164A was already introduced by III 53. None of the 164A number plates has the "Z."
