Server Problems

As some of you may know, the server that hosts Classic Rotary Phones (and the forum) has been down, apparently much of the afternoon.  I communicated with the company that hosts the forum.  This is what I was told:

Here is a detailed account of what
happened.

As a result of a hardware problem, the hard disk drives of the server were
migrated to a spare server in order to avoid downtime for the machine. The
hosting server was down between 15:20 EDT and 16:09 EDT while this was being
done.

Unfortunately, the hardware problem had caused corruption to the file system
as well, and our system administrators were forced to restore all customers'
files from the latest system backup completed on Mar 25 07:02 EDT. The
databases on the server have been restored from the system backup completed
on March 24, 06:36 EDT. The restore procedure was performed between 17:45
EDT and 19:18 EDT. The hosting server was down during that time.

As of 19:18 EDT, all services on the hosting machine were operational.

Our system administrators are currently inspecting the failed file system.
It may be possible to retrieve data from it at a later time.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

I posted a topic about this perhaps an hour ago.  I do not see the post now.  It went down again after I made that post.  So it appears as though some topics are missing or there was no back-up for the system for a period of time.

Unfortunately it is what it is.  I just hope that things will settle down now and if we lost data, it was kept to a minimum.

Hi Dennis:

I think they manages to ressurect the missing posts, Dennis and replaced from a later backup, as when it was originally re-started, a lengthy post I made yesterday had been lost, and I started trying to re-type it. Before I was done the server went down again, and lo and behold when it came back, that post had been recovered (Thank goodness - as you know it is hard to redo exactly what you had written in a post which had disappeared.)

So, hopefully others missing posts will be back. I suspect your post was lost when the re-loaded the latest backup?

Dave, I was just informed of a thread where a photo from one topic appeared in another.  Things may be messed up here and there.  Don't know that there's much that can be done.  Hopefully, in the end all will be well.
