Here's the reason (see image).

Found a guy with a large hoard of pre-1959 Western Electric phones, subsets, first-aid kits, etc. Barn full just outside of Syracuse.

I've purchased 6 phones so far including a beautiful green 1956 with a fat gray cord. Also got the 334A. And yes, I got the one the pet skunk is sniffing. Skunk was a rescue and lives outdoors. Still has scent glands. He calls it Skunkie.

I'll probably be selling the '56 with the gray cord. Should arrive on Monday. Dated 12/56. Also negotiating for a D-170901 and a 3/51 500T with a straight cord. Guy has several metal 302's. I've been helping him identify what he has. He says there is much more in the barn.

Is the skunk still available? I had a "pet skunk" when I was very young! It was "deodorized" though.

He found Skunkie after the mother had been killed. He fed it outdoors and it sort of adopted him. It's nocturnal and comes and cries at the door for food at all hours of the night. He said it's three years old and just came out of hibernation. I had no idea they were nocturnal or that they hibernated.

There was 4 feet of snow on the ground when we began working through the hoard so he sends me a few photos each day as he makes a 'barn run'. He had to put on snow-shoes the first couple of days we talked.

Here's another item in the hoard. Nice Green thermoplastic 302. It was their house phone.

Great find.
You said just outside of Syracuse. I was born in Oneida, anywhere near there ?

I have been using Vinegar as a cleaning agent on smelly items including my hands and it has been working on items that I would've given the tossout treatment.  This includes P on internal structures of old radio cabinets a light wash off in the manner of oil soap with a good sponge off and a air dry.

Your Yellow 500 should have straight Gray cords and a black dial.

Here's first pics of the 2/51 501. I was really hoping for some 1950 parts inside and wasn't disappointed. Equalizer is dated NOV 16 1950. I assume it was updated to a 501A since there is a 426A tube installed. Really gets busy under the dial with both an equalizer and a tube in place!

Paid $75 and $12 shipping
