Seller Listing Title: "Western Electric 554 Soft Plastic Rare Dark Gray Telephone-1956 Consistent Dates"
Condition: "Used"
Condition Qualifier: " - - - "
Listing Description: "The telephone is a rare Western Electric soft plastic type A/B 554 Dark Gray wall model. Western Electric telephone sets were only made in this color for a short period of time before being changed to a lighter gray shade. This telephone was used in a single north side Chicago location and all components show late 1956 manufacturing dates. While being sold on an "as is" basis (please review photos carefully), the telephone was tested on 12/10/2017 and produced a dial tone, transmitted voice, and dialed out to remote numbers correctly. The phone shows no corrosion, cracks, or serious color shift. -- Known defects include light scratches from normal use on all surfaces. This is a "hard wired" telephone and will have to be modified to plug into modular telephone lines. Adapters and backboards are available online. It should also be noted that this telephone only works on telephone networks that support pulse dialing. -- Overall, this telephone is in very good condition for it's 61 years and is an excellent collectable."

Thanks to all who played along in this contest.
I was about to walk into Best Buy to get a WiFi Dongle for this laptop (internal board failed) when I got a notice from eBay this was about to end.
Started the day at $76. With 5 minutes to go, it was at $250. At the end it jumped to into the $300s, then the mid $600s and one final update put it at $1,050. Quite the ending. I hope the seller was sitting down.
Congrats to Christian who tipped me off to the phone, placed the very first guess and won the contest, the forum contest trifecta. Not the first time that happened but I think the second, third at the most.
Way to go Christian. You seem to know soft plastic dark grey 554s well.
PS: This new Linksys AC600 dual band USB 300 MBps WiFi dongel works great. Thought I was having a hard disk access problem with pages loading slowly. Nope, it was a failing internal WiFi card. Pages now load instantly. Amazing how that works, upgrading junk.
