I agree with the last photo's title.... junk.

Why, oh why do people even think these are either rare or antiques?

Well, they look like antiques, don´t they?

I often get asked to repair or restore somebodys phones. I ask them to send me a pic only to find it is one of those fakes or one of those pimped Frankenphones made to look more antique. As my time is limited, I turn down these requests. I do not like working on them and I have plenty of real ones to work on.

I try to break it to them as gently as I can, that the Phone is not an antique and that I not going to restore it. After that I never get any reply. I think they are really disappointed that it isn´t an antique. Strange, because I you look at it carefully you can tell it is not antique, even if you have no knowledge of antiques.

So, what this eBay seller says in his item description about this telephone is absolutely true, right Matilo?

"Very rare to find a working rotary dial model like this."

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261399706607

Listed as a "Rare! Working! Antique Vintage 40" Brass Rotary Dial Art Deco Phone Telephone" at $179.95 BIN plus $29.95 shipping, it looks like it's going to be "A nice item for displaying. Also a good conversation piece." in his home for a long time to come.

Wow, just listed, the mother lode of rust encrusted, broken and missing parts similar phones, and 2 phone tables I'd not seen before.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151233360179

Seller listed the 5 "phones" as "Lot of 5 French-Style Rotary Phones" and said, as Matilo had discovered, "You are bidding on a Large Lot of 5 French-Style Rotary Phones (For Parts Only). None of the phones work.  Parts may be broken or missing.  I did notice that the marble on one of the two table type phones is broken/cracked all the way through. The phones will need additional cleaning.  I think some of the phones are made of brass, possibly with copper bases.  I do not have time to repair them."

Starting bid asked is $50 in a 5 day auction but the winner will have to drive to Saint Albans, West Virginia for it's local pickup only.

Must be the season for these. Another one just listed starting at $59.99 plus $40 shipping. Less "rare" than expected.

Seller says, and this seems to be typical, "IN GOOD CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. I HAVE NOT TESTED IT TO SEE IF IT WORKS, BUT IT MAKES A GREAT COLLECTABLE PIECE. NEEDS TO BE CLEANED, BUT I DID NT KNOW HOW, SO I LEFT IT THE WAY IT WAS AGED."

I wonder if they ever sell?

Here's a similar phone and something I've not seen before, how they ship them.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141193295416

It's a (seller listed) "Vintage PEDESTAL Style BRASS and MARBLE TELEPHONE Stand" starting in a 7 day auction at $9.99 plus $38.16 Economy Shipping.

This phone found a home, one buyer bid $9.99 and won the auction.

Imagine that!   :-\

Well, beyond belief, this one actually sold to a buyer with a feedback of (17) for $102.00 plus $32.00 shipping. It has issues, like the dial or lack of one for example, and the Seller honestly described in his eBay listing. Others in better condition have not, never, sold.

"I've been able to attend a lot of estate auctions, frequent antique stores and malls, but, I have never come across a telephone like this. I think it is a French style telephone. It's rotary dial. The wires are loose, the receiver on top is not secure on the piece it sits on and is loose as well. The ear piece and mouth piece part of the receiver look to be made out of a bake-lite material ? But, I am not sure. It's a harder, quality type plastic. It looks to have yellowed/discolored from age, I assume. The metal looks to be an ornate brass. I haven't tried to clean. I am selling just as I purchased. It does need work and is NOT in working order. The rotary dial piece is not securely attached. In one of the photo's you will see where I took it out and the wires underneath. There's what looks like 'patina' (I think is what it is referred to) on some of the metal. It stands approximately 41 1/2 inches tall. This is measuring  from the top of the receiver to the bottom of the base. The diameter of the bottom is approximately 10 inches and the scales are showing 11 pounds and 7.4 ounces. This will be a bigger package to ship. Local pick-up is also available. As it is right now, it is not too secure when standing by itself. I think there are a lot of places that just need tightening. The receiver piece, I think it's the piece under it, the bolt piece it is attached to has come unthreaded and loose where it attaches to the pole. Discolorations, wear, spotting, etc. But, it's such an unusual phone and looks to be vintage/old, . "
