Some later Western Electric sets are marked "1-PTY" which means one-party or individual line. 500DM and 2500DM sets manufactured after 6-1-82 and marked 1-PTY contain some or all of the following changes:

623D2 jack   (yellow lead removed)
C4C ringer    (slate and slate-red leads removed)
843767104 line switch (slate contact and lead removed)
4293-type network (G and L2 teminals removed)

Reference issue 5, section 502-521-402, July 1983 from the TCI library:

You will often see this stamped on the CS (Consumer Sales) sets, which were sold in department stores which carried the AT&T line in the 1980s.

They aren't suitable for applications such as grounded ringing on party lines.

It's possible that additional cost-saving changes were made after July, 1983. Western Electric was divested from AT&T on 1/1/84.
