AE 40 with Metal Dial Holder

Were these metal dial holders for the AE 40 Ship phones adding protection or were the early AE40s equipped with these?

This had a cloth bottom like the AE ship phones did....Doug

         Nice phone ! The metal dial holders were on the early 40's ( AE 4055 C catalog , 6-1940 ,pg 45 )and the ship phones used the cloth covered IC's. Hope this helps .  stub
