Hi Guys

I just received a NE 2236QC chrome TT payphone with all internals.
I connected Stans Coin Controller and coin relay works perfect and
makes calls.  The problem I have is that the phone will not answer.
When I pick up the handset during the ringing which I hear on another
phone on the line I hear a mid-tone warble like sound and the other
phone on the line still ringing.  It does it whether  the internal ringer
is connected or not.  Any thoughts?

You are plugging the upper housing in aren't you?

G-Man

Are you using it with a subset as was intended by the manufacturer?

Phonesrfun

Doesn't the NE 2236 have the network built in to the upper housing like the WE 236?

There should be a network behind the coin chute, making it a self-contained payphone.

However, from what little I can see in the photograph it seems as if the clamp on the upper-housing that is used to secure the cable which is terminated with a DB-15 connector is missing and some of the wires have been rearranged. If this is so, then this set will need a subset; if not then a subset is NOT needed.

I suppose another more important question would be whether this set worked prior to having the controller connected?

Hi Guys

Yes, there is a network and ringer under the chute and the DB-15 plug is there.
And yes I am connecting the DB-15 plug yes it does ring and answer when
connected to the phone line.  As mention before the problem is when connected
to Stan's Coin Controller it will not ring or answer.  When I pick up the receiver
I hear a mid-tone warble like sound and will not answer but another phone on
the line still rings.  I was hoping someone would recognize the symptom.
Even Stan is baffled.  Well maybe someone will think of something, just let me know.

Thanks

Stan emailed me and asked me to take ohm reading between ring and tip
to see if 2236 was higher and it read 2K ohms while my other was 0.72 ohms.
He said if the resistance of the 2236 is higher than the other 3-slot that answers.
That's the reason it isn't answering.  There's something about that 2236 that isn't factory.
Next when I get a chance I'll open up the front housing to see if the connections are correct.

The Saga continues...

Well I finally found out why the phone was not answering when
connected to Stan's Coin Controller.  It was looking at me right
in my face.  On the wiring diagram it says that the coin phone
is delivered wired Loop Start and if Ground Start is needed move
wire connected to pin 5 on DB-15 plug on Terminal 2 to Terminal 3
Low and behold it answered but will not ring but who cares the
main thing is that it answers. :)

I appreciate all who helped me try to correct this problem
especially Stan Schreier which I would of never got started
with this project.

Below is a pdf of NE-2236QC - NC-1236QC wiring diagram

I just bought a 2236QC and would like to verify some information.  First, I don't see a wiring diagram on the TCI website so thanks for posting that wiring diagram.  Do the internals on my phone look original?  Did this phone also come with the ringer as shown in the pictures?  I don't see a capacitor anywhere, and the ringer doesn't seem to work.  I get a dial tone, and can answer calls - is there any way to make the dial work without buying a network?

I found one of these in chrome today, no keys.

He was asking $124.95 and when I asked about the keys, he drooped to $75.00 without me even asking for a discount. I didn't buy it because I'm a little intimidated by the prospect of getting a pay phone in working order. What is a fair price and the collectibility of this model?

What do you suppose is that plug to the right of the key slot? Someone broke into it at some point?

The plug most likely blocks the hole where a barrel lock once resided. I'd ha' snatched it up, boogied, trying to suppress my delight until I left the establishment, for propriety's sake. ;) Looks like a great deal, at least to this ol' fool, from internet pictures.

Heck, I'd love to have just the center info card. 8)

Best regards!

Why do I always have trouble just getting an extra 10% off to put towards the taxes owing on the purchase?!
