New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Listed just in a 7 day auction with no reserve is something of a variant of Auction Contest #163, a mahogany brown North Electric 500 style desk set in what seems to be very good condition. It was listed at a somewhat high $199.99 and has yet to receive its first bid. So, once again the question is asked, who best knows what this phone will sell for when the auction ends?

The seller listed it as an "MAHOGANY NORTH ELECTRIC DESK TELEPHONE VERY RARE" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " with the auction listing description saying "RARE MAHOGANY BAKELITE NORTH ELECTRIC CO. DESK TELEPHONE.  FRESH FROM A LONG TIME TELEPHONE COLLECTORS PRIVATE STASH.  PERFECT TO ADD TO YOUR ANTIQUE TELEPHONE COLLECTION! THIS BEAUTIFUL TELEPHONE IS A DELIGHT TO BEHOLD, A VERY RARE ITEM TO FIND ANYWHERE.  THERE IS A TINY SPOT ON THE LEFT FRONT CORNER THAT LOOKS LIKE A SMALL CRACK WAS REPAIRED YEARS AGO.  DISPLAYS MINT, SEE PICTURES. THE ORIGINAL NORTH ELECTRIC DIAL SPINS FREELY AND RETURNS PROMPTLY, MAKES A GREAT CLICKY SOUND WHEN DIALING. THE HANDSET IS FREE FROM CHIPS OR CRACKS, THE CLOTH RECEIVER CORD LOOKS VERY NICE.  THIS TELEPHONE WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO ANYONE'S TELEPHONE COLLECTION!"

NOTE: we will use a 3% gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, guess gaps of 6+% can be split. I'll help with these as the auction goes forward and guesses are entered.

It's another chance to move up a rung or to get onto the CRPF -> Contest Standings <- list,

$400.
I think it's the burgundy color though--don't recall the official name. Mahogany was mottled.

First picture is my Maroon North. Pictures are always hard, but the auction phone does look more brown than mine, but I thought mine was brown when I won it.

Second is how it looked in the auction

Third and fourth are my Mahogany North, hard to see in the pictures but it is a mottled brown with black in it

Last pic is my Green north which was really tough to bring back to life....Doug

Just about a day and a half to get your guesses in on this contest. The guessing window closes about 5 pm PST on Friday, tomorrow. Looks like this is going to be a final snipe auction with anyone's guess of what that winning snipe will be.
