Here's a list I collated from 3 or 4 sources as to what codes might be on GPO / BT apparatus, it's in Word format.

This list also covers some codes you may not find on telephones, such as test equipment, manhole covers etc, I tried to make it as comprehensive as I could.

Some codes are unknown and are listed as such, also this is GPO / BT apparatus only, British Ericsson / GEC etc  had their own series of which you can find very little of online -

These codes can also be found on components, so helps you date them as well.

Eg - 250 F.H.R. 60/1 = model 250, GPO Factory - Holloway, London
(repaired apparatus, special cases only) or GPO Factory, Holloway (refurbish), 1960.

No idea what the "/1" means, probably first quarter, most refurbished sets have a batch sample number sticker on them as well which should give the refurbisher and give a year and a stroke number.

I've had this on the PC for ages, never thought about posting it before - hope anyone with a GPO set finds it useful.
