Any markings on the base?

Any diagram pasted inside?

It is a nice phone, Looks like a German W48.
The basic diagram has remained almost unchanged since 1928, and remained so until they started to make push button telephones.

This looks like a not to old variant, and does probably have a single coil ringer.
Whatever the ringer coil(s) total resistance is, it should be put a resistor in series to reach a total of approx 4 000 ohms.

The best way to do so is to unsolder the wire on the ringer and tape it. Choose the wire who ends up at the capacitor. tape the end and solder in a resistor of e.g. 2200 ohms. The other end of the resistor should end up to be connected to the UK special ringer wire. (orange/white) The 2 other wires you should use are marked a and b.   If it doesent ring, switch a and b. (blue/white and white/blue)

A picture of the inside circuits would help
