On the transmitter element it says "Fungus Treatment", That usually means designated for a military area where a jungle type surrounding exists.

No.  This phone as it is could represent what sometimes happens when a customer complains that his phone has too much side tone.  The repairman may not have had any extra phones on his truck, but had some extra F-1 handsets instead.  As a result, the G-1 got replaced with an F-1.

I would want tro know if the phone came that way originally. If it did, I'd leave it. If it was changed I would try to find a 1951 G1 handset to replace it.
