Half modular, half hard-wired handset? Have you ever seen this?

I think my Union Springs, Alabama, beige 500 set is an example of what you are talking about. It is hardwired, with the same grey "modular to hardwired filler plate" that MassTel mentioned above.

I'm still looking to pass this phone on to someone, by the way. Anyone from small town Alabama might be especially interested, since it is a piece of local history.
