I have a magneto for an old WE wall phone, and the armature mounting brackets are broken, and a replacement magneto is just to hard to find.
I want to attempt to cast the parts in aluminum.
I have the ability to make Kiln hardened molds, or just plain Plaster molds. Does anyone know which mold type would be better for making cast aluminum parts. I believe the aluminum melts at like 1100 Fahrenheit. The clay molds will withstand 3000 plus degrees, I'm not sure how much heat a plaster mold would withstand ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

D/P:
Were the original parts made of aluminum also? If you are replacing iron with aluminum, it may not work, because aluminum is not a magnetic material. Unless the aluminum you are bringing into the phone does not play a role in the magnetic circuit associated with the operation of the phone.
You might want to sand cast instead. Some high school metal shops may still have foundry.

I love the smell of foundry sand.
The parts were/are originally pot metal.

D/P sir, full steam ahead!
Wow, casting aluminum. You have passed my level, the only thing I cast is the occasional fishing line.

D/P: Please post photos of the magneto and/or parts you need. There's a chance I may have something and a better chance that a post on the ATCA and TCI lists would produce results. There are a lot of magnetos and parts out there. Many go unsold at shows.
Paul;
Here is the magneto. It's a W.E. 48-A. You can see the crack lines, where it was broken, before I patched it back together in an attempt to make a mold.

D/P: The photo helps. I believe my parts magnetos are incompatible models. I'll double check to make sure. Try the club lists. There are enoug wood specialists there that someone is likely to have a magneto parts box.
