Jan found this on Facebook. Patent dates 1890s. Nickel is outstanding condition as is the Wood Ball Handle. This is the 4 digit stamp, no exchanges or area codes.

It really looks amazing. I just used a little fine steel wool and here we are.

Came with a rusted Bell Systems Vey Dry Ink Pad.

I have the regular hand stamp type.

The Bates numbering machines are handy for printing a bunch of sequential numbers, but can be messy to set to a specific number.  Be aware that they should be used with special oil-based numbering machine ink for the metal type.  The same goes for the HOMS number stamp.
