I have a question.... on a regular C4A all 4 wires are used for the ringer, the slate and slate-red connect to the capacitor. Now, on a Pricess, trendline, and similar phones the bell is wired with the red and black only with the black wire being tied to the capacitor with a jumper to the line. why are these bells wired this way when the slate and slate-red wires are still intact. is not the coil wired identical to the C4A? someone educate me on this, as I have tried to wire them in phones before as the C4A is wired and had to wire them back with only the red-black wires being used...

A C4 ringer has 2 coils of different impedances. They are wired in series with the capacator between them, The ringer in a Princess set has one coil with taps for different impedances for party line identification.
