I stumbled across this just a few minutes before it ended.  Although the base says 5-62, that dial to me looks like an older style, or did they use them later than I think?

Hey that's my birthday phone! Looks like a 1962 standard metal fingerwheel dial

Ok.  I answered my own question by looking at the three 62's that I have, they were all refurbished in the 70s.

In 1963 WeCo began the transition from metal to plastic fingerwheels and bakelite to ABS handsets on black phones, although I've seen a few '64s in the older style.

They probably just continued making the phone until they ran out of parts. Knowing WE, nothing EVER  goes to waste.
