The USS Midway, CV-41.1945-1992, is a museum aircraft carrier in San Diego, Calufornia. 

I visited this ship a while back. Here are some photos of its telephones.

That red one looks like the handset cord could be used to tie the ship up at dock! Guess they figured that particular one had to survive a battle in one piece.

I have a mill phone. an 88 maybe??? very common model.
I replaced the handset cord, and the new one,
had a label on it showing the correct orientation for tieing up a boat! ;)
