For your weekend reading pleasure, Chuck Hensley has provided over 70 articles from his collection of Bell Laboratories Record magazines, spanning the years 1925 to 1978.  Thanks Chuck!

He also added table listing the volume numbers and publication years plus an alphobetic index of articles from 1925 to August 1942.  More years will be added later.

You can find them in the Library's new Bell Laboratories Record category.  Here are several ways to get there:

or from the Menu Bar:  Browse the Library / Document Repository / Catalogs, Manuals ... / Western Electric / Bell Labs Record.

or browse by starting at the Document Repository and clicking on the individual links shown above.

Chuck recently provided an updated BLR index covering volumes 1 - 35, 1925 - 57.

John Novack contributed several Western Electric training documents covering switching topics, some dated as early as the 1920s.

Jeff Lamb contributed wiring diagram scans from the 1935 WE No. 9 Catalog.

Clint Gilliland contributed several internal AT&T and PT&T memos covering equipment locations and exchange names, plus some info dated 1947 - 50 on transmission and zoning for the "new" 500-type phones.  One mentions the 1949 field trials and gives 1950 production estimates by quarter for the 500B and 501B sets.

Check the latest additions lists or search for their last name to get their most recent additions.

BPO dial lovers will appreciate several new contributions to the TCI Library.  They document the Nos 10 and 11 "slipping cam" type, Nos 12 to 19 "trigger" type and "moulded body" dials.

Also there are several interesting new index documents that describe the early history of the Station Operations Manual section of the BSPs -- including Scope and Arrangement plus both Alpha and Numeric indices.  They start with C16.00.

They're currently in the Library's Inbox pending OCR.

Happy reading.

Update:  The dial documents are in the Library and others will follow.  If you don't see them in the inbox, look at the Recent Additions list.

The winner, and possibly the seller, of this auction has the BSP, manual, and some marketing material for the business phone trainer KS-21564: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271524428038

Thanks to John Novack for providing several of the BSPs and a Telezonia Teacher's Guide to the Library.

The Business Phone Trainer BSPs reference the following, that would be good to add as well:
   SD-69649-01
   SD-69925-01

We have 473-411-100 issue 4, and still want to find the earlier issues:
  473-411-100, issues 1, 2 & 3, KS-16605 Teletrainer

For reference, there's now a Teletrainer photo ID page here: http://www.paul-f.com/Teletrainers.html

Check out the latest additions for your holiday week leisure reading.

One exciting new contribution is Sam Etler's updated complete index to the Bell System Technical Journal archive.

The copies on the Lucent site have disappeared -- or moved behind a paywall at IEEE.

Fortunately, the issues from 1922 to 1983 were also posted at archive.org, with a nice on-line viewer, keyword search and the ability to download in several formats.

Sam's updated index points to those files directly.  So, you can do a text search in the index and pull up the file when you need it, without the need to download the entire collection.  You can run the index in the Library's view pane or download it to your computer.  If you use it frequently, you can add a browser bookmark for fast access.

Simply select "BSTJ Archive" from the drop down menu under "Browse the Library" on the black main menu bar.

Recent contributions from Jeff Lamb, Walt Aydelotte, Dennis Hock, Steve Flocke, Paul Wills, Sam Etler, Fred Haynes, John Novack, Clint Gilliland, Steve Cichorsky and Karl Brose cover a wide range of topics.

They include SC catalog info, Test Board documentation, a new folder of early industry publications (several from the 1880s), Switchboard wiring, K Carrier, and WE articles on Plastics and Project Mercury (space program).

Most are visible in the 30 Latest Additions list on the home page, but to see them all, go here:
      http://www.telephonecollectors.info/index.php/browse/latest-most-downloaded

Your contributions are welcome.

We're also looking for volunteers to help with Library administration and expansion.

There's been no discussion so far.  The obvious problems are the size and the fact that the Library is in its infancy, so will change a lot as we add more material and figure out better ways to index it for searching.  The disks would be a snapshot at a point of time (in the past).

Another issue is limited volunteer time.  We already have way more ideas than we have "staff" to implement them.  More helpers are always welcome.

That said, we have seen several DVDs offered on-line (including ebay) that appear to include a lot of material from the Library.

For anyone that is on a low speed internet connection, we could discuss preparing extracts on DVD pertaining to a partcular subject.  Send a private email, please.
