Title: AE Stylelines with metal baseplate?
Post by: markosjal on January 08, 2018, 12:38:54 AM
I found this which if I have seen one like tjis it has been a very long time. This is an AE Styleline and it looks like it has a metal baseplate, at least theylooklie rivots in metal on the bottom.Looks nothing like my styleline baseplate which is plastic. So this myst be a very old styleline? Was this before they got cheap and crappy? for the 331 Pesos or about $15 US Dollars with shipping,  even if not worth it otherwise I suppose it has an AE Mini network for a 202.

Yes from about 1969 to 1978 the AE Styleline had a cast metal baseplate and round (not flat) cords with the BIG plugs on the ends. The base cord did start to be made in silver/satin or clear flat cords like this one has but earlier still they had color keyed round base cords with spade tips on the wall end.

In 1978 they changed to the plastic base with conventional RJ type jacks and cords. The plastic bases had the wallphone keyed mounting slots molded in for both Desk and Wall models causing some  people listing them on eBay to think they are convertible whereas they aren't really. The plastic cover is different between desk and wall models.

$15 US is reasonable for these. I have loads of them for anyone wanting them in 15-20 different colours for an instant collection!

Need to know more about them?

Thanks terry,

I think Imay buy this one if seller says there are no breaks in plastic unlikely on a styleline as they always seem to break near the bottom of the handset near cord entry.

Yes, they like to chip on each side of the handset cord plug. And if handset is set off hook on its back very much they get scratched up there at the high point.

That one looks like it may be Lemonade (light yellow), same as one next to the white one at left of my first picture.
