How difficult is it to find a replacement handset hook for a 1957 model 554? Looking for the wide hook. Picked up an otherwise original phone but the hook is broken.

Someone here may have one, but in case not, there are two places that have parts, and both have websites.  Often you can call either of them and see if they have something they don't have listed on line.

http://www.phonecoinc.com/        Phoneco.

http://www.oldphoneworks.com/antique-phone-parts      Old Phone Works

Old Phone Works is in Canada, and they are very friendly towards us that are in the US.

Other than that, you could go onto the TCI (Telephone Collectors International) listserve through Yahoo groups and post a wanted to buy on that list.

Hmmm....the Phoneco site is down.  I typed it in manually too just to be sure there wasn't an error in your link Bill.  I hope they're not closing down, I need something! :)

Hmmm.  I just tried it from the link I posted and it worked for me......

Phoneco also sells on e-Bay under the handle of thisundthat5hnq

I don't know about them going out of business either. One of the AE 34's that went on ebaY earlier in the week was bid on by Phoneco. One bidder went higher than them and won it though.

Working here now too....maybe some web site maintenance.  Whew!  I've noticed them selling some items on eBay at prices just higher than their prices on the web site.

Thanks I'll check out those sites!
