This has just arrived via eBay, it's marked 601-P and I'm pretty sure is Japanese, although I don't know the maker.
Appears to date from 1984 and has a lovely melodious ringer that has doorbell like tones as it uses bar chimes.
The keypad is behaving a bit strangely as you have to give the keys a long press or they don't register. However this only happens on my real line and not my line simulator, which recognises them instantly. Odd?
I've not seen one of these on the UK before but I'm sure they're common enough in Japan.
It was £12 (best offer) + £3.20 P&P (approx US$21 total)

"push button telephone 90s retro. Condition is "Used". Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class."

The seller told me they'd had is since new (but '90s in their description ??) but didn't say where they got it from.

...my line simulator...

That sounds interesting too. Which line simulator do you have, could you add a photo?

Here's my line simulator. It's an old BT Payphones unit that my brother found at a car boot sale many years ago. You can ring between two lines, one 1km the other 6km, using pulse or tone dialling, and as it was designed for bench testing payphones it can do exchange meter pulsing too. All in all a very handy bit of kit.

Good find tubaman...
Video clip of a 601P ringing. I believe the maker is NTT.
Haven't seen a phone with a bar chime ringer before....a really nice sound.

That's the sound - it is really nice!
It is NTT as their old logo from that Wiki you linked is on the front of the phone. It's the one I've added below and is visible in my photos.
Thanks for the info.

I really like the bar ringer!  Has anyone ever seen anything like that used before?  I've been getting really interested in Japanese phone equipment.  They seemed to bring some different ways of thinking into telephony.
