The current high bidder has a feedback of 15.

I saw a copy of the book referenced in the listing at a book store several years ago.  It had a photo of a similar phone in a stateroom on the Normandie.  There wasn't much else about it in the book, so I didn't buy a copy.

The author is quoted as saying his research indicated that only a few hundred were saved before the ship burned.

However I haven't seen any statistics indicating that the model was never installed anywhere else.  It seems reasonable that it was a production phone used elsewhere - something ebay sellers rarely suggest.

In 2007 two of them sold - $2253 and $2550.

Last month one with a few cracks sold for a mere $510.

It's the Normandie connection.  Normandie memorabilia prices are second only to Titanic memorabilia.  If the ocean liner nuts think something came from the Normandie, the seller is guaranteed a nice payday.

Darrin....at least it makes more sense. I thought it was like the QE2.

Paul...I agree I saw a couple of big hits on these last year. I guess I'll have to do without....Doug

Found this picture of the ship on Wikipedia, it was taken after she was salvaged and right before she was scrapped in 46'.
