I'm amazed by how many phones have white paint spatter on them.

Even some of the 554's I've got have white paint around the body.

I think you already know this, but that's from people reprinting their walls, without removing the phone first, or without putting masking tape on it. I only have a handful of wall phones with no paint on the edges.

Since you mentioned it, for every paint spattered phone, there is a paint spattered piece of furniture with a paint free rectangular area on it that is about the size of the phone that once sat there  . . .  ;)

Since we are talking about the wall phones being in the way; would the bell system offer to unhook them, so they would not get 'damaged' while renovations were going on?

Yes, I know that technically the plastics belonged to the customers, but I'd be interested to know.

Actually back then the whole phone belonged to ma bell. Your thinking of the line of phones that were decorative that the bell system had later.
