I picked this up on eBay a few days ago and it came today. I am a sucker for test sets and WE so this was perfect for me. Any idea what it screwed into or what screwed on to it? Very different. 1004 B on top....Doug

Don't know the first thing about it, just that it looks super-cool.

Very cool. I vaguely recall a discussion about a set like that maybe here or on the lists. I am thinking here because I remember lots of pictures. Can't search now, at work. Maybe later.

Most likely the tube held batteries for talk current.Clip onto cable pairs and talk to test board etc

That's surely an unusual set!

I also remember some discussion when this page went live.  I believe the batteries were for field use.

It would be great to find a BSP reference.  Here's a catalog reference for Railway use from a catalog in the TCI Library.

Edit: added catalog page.

Robbie/Paul...the end of the tube has nothing but the wires going to the transmitter. The tube sure looks like the size to hold "D" Batteries. The missing cap (never ever would have thought of that) would be 1 1/2 inch diameter if anyone might have something in their parts box. I am real happy with this. Any more info is greatly appreciated.

For you new collectors, this is why the Forum is the place to be. Look how quickly I was pointed in the right direction....Doug

Here's a link to a previous discussion with Dave's wiring diagram.  Dave may be able to provide detailed photos of the missing cap.

After looking at the diagram, you guys will have to tell us how the thing works.  Anything with batteries and a vibrator must be fun.   :o

That's the discussion I was trying to recall. I now recall the presentation case. The mind is an amazing thing when it works well. Kinda frustrating when it doesn't :o

WECo catalog No. 3 of 1916 shows a 1004A that has two buttons.

The version without the signaling button is the 1004B.
