Tip for an internal pulse tone convertor

Here in Holland there is somebody who makes their own pulse tone convertors.

I have built these in quite a number of telephone types now and it works with most of them if you wire it correctly. Some may need extra adaptation. For instance a W28 needs an extra break contact in the hookswitch, otherwise it will not hang up.

It is a 5 wire installation, so quite simple. If you use a little connectorblock there is no need to cut wires and your Phone can be easily reverted to its Original state.

The site is in Dutch I´m afraid.

Perhaps some of you may want to try it.

Having something that can be installed for a whole house would be a good thing.  I have a 616, plus my cable company's ATA still supports rotary dial.  I am one who abandoned my telco POTS a long time ago in favor of the less expensive route.

As time goes on, more and more people are going to abandon POTS service with their telcos.  Already, there are probably a lot of people who think they have a line that supports old phones, and they are unaware of the fact that their "lines" may not support rotary dial.  They will buy an old phone, only to come here and ask why their old phone won't dial out.  :)

Some day soon, the norm will be that rotary dials won't work on most services.  I think that's the way the world is headed.  I also think that getting a PBX like a Panasonic 308 or 616 is more than an average non-collector wants to put up with.  Many people want old phones to have a novelty item in the house, but they are not interestind in collecting.  For them, a little interface item would be perfect, but an entire PBX box would be too much.

I had not heard that oldphoneworks item was having trouble too.  Maybe they sell the dial gizmo.  Not relly sure.  I have not needed to buy one, so I have never played around with one.  If that is the case, then it becomes all the more important that one that is reliable, small and simple can be found.

Sure Bill. I was trying to say that it might be something that someone wanted to try out, as a curiosity. A gadget to play around with.

It is not a solution for someone owning more than one or two pulse dialing telephones. A collector is better of with one device that will convert for all the phones. Then again you could help someone out with it, who has only one Rotary telephone.

Don´t know if OPW has problems with their convertor. Only theirs is not working on my set up. Don´t know yet why not.

Here about half of the landlines (POTS, voip via cable, optic fiber networks) support pulse dialing. That percentage is dropping every year of course.

Many people even drop their fixed Phone and only have a mobile.

This article in English are far to short to give me the needed input to build it my selves, but it is probably based on the same idea.

Yes, the Dutch design is even mentioned in the article.
