Did 302's come with the inside of the bases painted ?
I've only seen plain aluminum.

Not to my knowledge. All the ones I own from 38 up aren't painted. Not sure if they're treated? They may be?

The reason I asked, is this photo shows a painterd base, with date numbers.
I hope we aren't getting into repainting dates !

Of the dozen or so I have owned, three are unpainted and the rest are painted.

Are the painted ones from a certain era, or all over the scale ?
I have 7, 302's, from 1937 to 1952, even one from Northern Electric, none painted.

My '41 WE and '54 NE are both painted inside.  They're the only two I have handy at the moment.  The WE's base is painted in the standard semi-gloss black, while the NE's base is painted in a high-gloss black.

Mine are from 1938-1953.  The painted ones are from all points in that range.  The aluminum ones appear to be less likely to be painted, the steel ones more likely.

Man, I stand corrected. Non of mine to my knowledge, are painted. But I'll have another look later.

I've been meaning to post about this for a while, but I have several which are both painted and unpainted on the inside.

My painted ones are from telephones as late as '52(date matched) so apparently, they were done some up until then.
