I just cannot stop buying phones.  This is my third ebay phone since Friday.  It appears to be missing the round piece with the numbers which goes into the center of the finger wheel.  Does anyone know where I could find a replacement?

Hello Larry,

Here is a folder of the Dialog that shows the missing part:

Do you also need the center screw?

I can see if I can find it for you and bring it to the US in November if you like.

Remco,

From the ebay picture, it appears that the center screw is there.  I hope that the seller will ship the phone quickly to that it will arrive this week.  I will be able to verify the information once I have the phone.

Thank You

Larry,

Do we you need to go to Phoneaholic Anonymous

I justify my habit by saying that most of the phones I bought are worth at least as much as i paid for them, and antiques are not going to become any younger, so I should be able to sell them if I want to recover my expenses.  That usually works :)

my excuse is "I dont have this color though"

Well, that excuse wouldn't work for me because I purchased a black North Electric Galeon 7H62 this week.  The price was right and the vertically vented back and wide Art Deco shape just screamed "Buy me!!".  It's black like my WE302, so it's not a color thing.  It's not from a different era, either.  Fortunately my Novus #2 arrived from Amazon.com today, so I'm off to put the 1000 grit sandpaper to the old 302.   With luck, I'll have it ready for photographs by next weekend, just about the time the new 7H62 arrives.  :P

North Galions are about the most elegant looking desk phones.  I have had an imitation Galion (really a 302 in disguise) since about 1975, but several months ago, I found one on ebay for $10 or $11 (mush less than the usual going rate).  If arrived covered in flaking paint, but I stripped the paint and polished the phone, and it looks great now.  Unfortunately, despite being marked on the bottom as having an SL ringer, it had a frequency ringer.

Keith, be warned that you are acquiring a serious addiction for which there is no known cure :)  Your family and friends may start to think that you're crazy (but they will probably want to try using your phones anyway).

It has been a week of phone disappointments.  The Ericsson just arrived, and the first thing that I noticed was a tag on the line cord with "TRAN/RCV missing" written on it, and not surprisingly, the transmitter and receiver capsules area missing.  Also, one side of the shell looks like someone attacked it with a rotary tool.  There are gouges which are too deep for sanding.  Other than that, the phone has a strong tobacco smell to it.  Maybe I should switch to collecting something else.

Ebay is wonderful at getting some phones.  But for me,  it has been hit and miss.  About half the phones I get off ebay are just right,  the other half has some issues.   My best finds are when I can pick up the phone and take it apart.  So many times I find a phone at an antique store, at first glance, it looks great.  Only to find when I examine it closer I find out it is a bit-o-phone or a FrankenPhone.

Sorry to hear the phone has issues.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with that phone, Larry.  It's a nice looking phone.  It would be nice to get the dial bezel for it.  I looked at the one Remco posted.  Very nice phone.

You'd think that seller would have mentioned the damage and lack of transmitter/receiver.  Despite the low price, by the time you paid shipping you've got an investment.  Maybe you can negotiate with him/her.

I sent the seller a message just before my posting here.  He has a 100% rating, so I am surprised about this.  He would have had to really try to fail to notice these issues.

It says "UNRESTORED (not messed with), NO HEAVY SCRATCHES OR CRACKS." in the eBay ad.

Apparently not a truthfull statement...

Hopefully you can resolve it with the seller.

The seller has offered to refund the purchase price but not the postage.  I am thinking of asking for $17 back.  Any suggestions?
